Love it or hate it, SpeedTV has carved a niche out for itself as one of the foremost cable networks when it comes to high-octane motorsports. It isn’t just professional racing though; SpeedTV has launched more than a few innovative shows, like Pinks All Out, where drivers competed against each other for the right to the other’s car.
Another interesting show as far as drag racing goes is SpeedTV’s Pass Time, where a panel of experts listen to a driver answer questions about his car before dialing in a guess at the ¼ mile time. Unfortunately for George Owen, who was driving a ‘92 Ford Mustang 5.0, his pass ended in disaster when he put his racer into the wall.
Pass Time is a chance for regular guys to run what they brung, and whole Owen’s Mustang has an estimated 350 horsepower, it’s hardly some fire-breathing big-block monster. It’s a well-kept, lightly-modded Mustang that can probably run 11’s all day.
Indeed, the judges all guessed a ¼ mile time in the 11’s or even the high 10’s after Owen described 175 shot of nitrous in the car. But once he leaves the starting line, it becomes abundantly clear that the Mustang has gotten away from him. After a quick downshift into second the Mustang gets squirrelly, and despite his best efforts to avoid an accident the Mustang winds up in the wall.
It’s an ugly end for a beautiful car, and in our non-expert opinion…that Mustang is all done.
