Engine and transmission swaps are pretty common in drag racing these days, but some like to get really creative wth their projects, cramming some pretty potent small displacement motors into what are traditionally V8-powered machines. And that’s exactly what Mohammed Haji from Qatar has done, as he’s rocking a boosted six banger from a Nissan in his Mustang, running deep into the four-second range with this radically different engine swap.
The engine of choice for Haji is a straight-six TB48-based motor from a Nissan Patrol SUV. These motors from the factory used a dual overhead cam setup and are known for their durability. To help make this car a true monster at the track, Haji added a custom turbocharger system topped off with a massive 98 mm turbo. With the boost turned up the engine package makes well over 1,700 horsepower and has a unique, screaming exhaust tone that sounds evil under power.
The Mustang had gone 4.40s in testing but then ran into some issues, including a minor altercation with the wall during a pass. Haji and his team were able to patch the car up with some more fiberglass and get back into action in the six-cylinder class. The pass after the repairs nearly ended in disaster as the Datsun lined up in the opposite lane made a very hard left and almost collected Haji. Even with that drama, Haji was able to power down the track to an impressive 4.59 at 154 mph.
