It was quite the weekend for the folks at Weld Racing in the upper tiers of the drag racing world last weekend, as the company and their customers swept the professional winners podium at the Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol and also garnered wins at the X-DRL X-Treme Gateway Showdown in St. Louis.
The weekend got off to a hot start in St. Louis when Weld customer Bob Rahaim drove his gorgeous silver 1968 Camaro to victory in Pro Nitrous — his first victory with the X-DRL — on a break single run, hammering out low elapsed time of the entire meet with a 3.84. Later, X-Treme Pro Stock racer Todd Hoerner took the brand new Weld Delta-1 series wheel to victory lane with a final round defeat of another Delta-1-clad racer, Dean Goforth, to earn his second straight win in St. Louis.
On Sunday, Steve Torrence notched his first win of 2013 and first with new crew chief Lee Beard when he outran Spencer Massey in the Top Fuel final, 3.87 to 3.89. In Funny Car, John Force snapped his 31-race winless streak at the track he’s had much success at, scoring his first win of the season over his arch nemesis Cruz Pedregon. Weld Racing completed the hat trick with another victory for the Delta-1 in Pro Stock, as Rodger Brogdon nabbed his first career professional victory. For good measure, Weld customers tacked on another victory, as Rickie Smith drove his nitrus-assisted 2012 Chevrolet Camaro to the winners circle in Pro Modified with a win over fellow Weld Racing racer Troy Coughlin in the final round.
