There are cars that are so impressive, they are known country wide. The Shake, Rattle and Run ‘57 Chevrolet Bel Air is one of these cars. Although it has made an impact on countless dragstrips across the United States under the ownership of the same individual for the last 50 years, it is time that this legend is passed to its next deserving owner. And that owner could be you!
In its 50-year run under the same owner, the Bel Air has been driven to win numerous awards and appear in several magazines. These awards range from drag racing awards to auto and ISCA show awards. Feature articles as well as cover appearances have made this car even more well known than just its drag-racing passes alone. Countless YouTube videos have also added to this car’s popularity.
Dozens of awards and magazine appearances aren’t the only things that are impressive about this Bel Air. It was built atop a full RJ Pro chassis and sports a 633cui powerhouse of an engine. The Bel Air pushes a crazy 1,900hp. With that much horsepower, it is no wonder that this consistent 6-second quarter mile car has set Myriad records on more than one occasion.
We hate to put a monetary value on the memories and history of this nostalgic racer, but that will be what happens on September 17th when the Bel Air will be auctioned off at the St. Charles Mecum Auction. With as much power and draw this car has, we hope that it goes to someone who will continue building its resume with track records and event appearances for years to come. If you have what it takes to own such an incredible machine, bidding will take place for this Bel Air at 4p.m. We’ll definitely be keeping our eye on this one to see just how much attention the most well known shoebox Chevy racer gets as it transitions into the next leg of its incredible racing life.
