Mickey Thompson Tires Monday Morning Race Report
ADRL: Same Day Event Coverage here on DRAGZINE. Following a tumultuous couple of prior seasons, youngster Jason Hamstra got the new year off on the right foot by winning a stacked Pro Extreme class in Houston, defeating a red-lighting Todd Tutterow in the final with a stellar 3.68, while Khalid Balooshi continued his global dominance in Pro Nitrous by downing Pat Stoken in the money round. Lamar Swindoll Jr., driving Todd Moyer’s former Cavalier earned an upset win in Extreme 10.5 after besting Billy Glidden, and Cary Goforth and Ashley Owens added more hardware to their trophy cases with wins in their respective classes. March Meet: Event Recap here on DRAGZINE. It took an extra week to accomplish it, but the 53rd annual March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway went into the books on Saturday following a postponement due to rainy conditions a week prior. When all was said and done, top qualifier Rick White earned the Nostalgia Top Fuel title with a decisive win over Brett Harris, 5.70 to 5.78, while Kris Krabill outlasted an incredible field of Nostalgia floppers, including #1 qualifier Jason Ruprt in the final round, to earn one of drag racings’ most coveted trophies. IHRA Nitro Jam: The IHRA’s Nitro Jam tour made its maiden voyage to the Arizona desert to the Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson for the inaugural Arizona Nitro Jam, where on Saturday, Bobby Lagana took Top Fuel honors and James Day did likewise in Prostalgia Funny Car, while on Sunday, Steve Dorn captured the Nitro Harley victory and Chris Bennett took the exciting Fuel Altered division with a nice 6.44. NHRA Division 7: A week before the NHRA’s Full Throttle tour’s spring visit, the Division 7 Lucas Oil series tackled the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second race of the season. In Top Alcohol Dragster, Joey Severance came out on the winning of a killer drag with Chris Demke, both drivers running a 5.40 but Severance with a slight .014 holeshot advantage. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Jay Payne virtually dominated the field and closed it out with a win over John Lombardo Jr. in the final.
