Monday Race Report: NHRA Bristol, ADRL In Topeka, Nitro Jam, More!

FIRST TIME WINNERS HINTZ AND SCHWEIGERT HEAD UP VICTORY LANE IN THE HEARTLAND

Mickey Thompson Monday Morning Race Report

ADRL: Same Day Event Coverage on DRAGZINE. Joey Martin collected his second straight win in Pro Extreme in Topeka, downing points leader Jason Hamstra in a 3.65 to 3.73 final round match. Mike Castellana bested teammate Mahana Al-Naemi for Pro Nitrous honsors, while reigning Extreme 10.5 champ Dan Millen earned his first win of the year with an exciting defeat of Lamar Swindoll Jr.. Scott Hintz earned his first career ADRL win in Extreme Pro Stock on Peter Berner’s foul start, and Terry Schweigert also nabbed his first victory in the two-wheeled category. NHRA: Event recap here on DRAGZINE. Reigning Top Fuel champ Larry Dixon finally collected his first win of the season during a late night affair in Bristol as he downed Antron Brown in a stellar 3.83 to 3.85 drag race, while Robert Hight collected his fourth win of the season in Funny Car when opponent Jack Beckman struck the tires. In Pro Stock, Eric Enders came up just short of winning her first career race when he ZaZa Energy mount shook the tires, allowing Mike Edwards to take his third straight Bristol win. And in Pro Modified, Melanie Troxel put it all together for her second win in the category and the first this year for a turbo entry when she defeated Danny Rowe. IHRA Nitro Jam: Bruce Litton won the Top Fuel contest both days of the IHRA Salt Lake Nitro Jam, defeating Bobb Lagana Jr. in the process. James Day took the Day One honors in Prostalgia Funny Car with a win over Tim Boychuk, while Todd Lesenko did likewise on Sunday, again over Boychuk. And in the popular Fuel Altered category, Tom Padilla used a nice 6.58 to defeat Jason Richey on Day One, while Richey bounded back to close the weekend with a win on Sunday after downing Ron Maroney. NHRA Division 5: Following up on last weekend’s Full Throttle event, the Division 7 Lucas Oil Series visited Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA for the fourth event of the season. Jim Whitely grabbed the win in Top Alcohol Dragster, defeating Shawn Cowie on a holeshot in a great final round matchup, 5.28 to 5.27, while Mark Woznichak won Top Alcohol Funny Car over John Lombardo Jr. – also on a holeshot – 5.65 to 5.63. NHRA Division 5: Jim Whiteley took his supercharged mount to the Top Alcohol Dragster winners circle at the Bandimere Speedway on Sunday, defeating James Stevens by a 5.52 to 5.70 count. Roger Bateman took an easy win in Top Alcohol Funny Car when opponent Kirk Williams was unable to make the call, and Lou Ficco Jr. was never headed in the Competition Eliminator finale after Clint Neff go out of shape and lifted. NHRA Division 6: Joey Severance took Top Alcohol Dragster honors on Sunday at the NHRA Northwest Division event at Spokane County Raceway, running a great 5.44 to Ray Martin’s slowing 7.39. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Steve Gasparelli defeated Clint Thompson with a nice 5.82 after Thompson encountered troubles and slowed. Jeff Lane won Competition Eliminator after Mark Wolfe and his twin turbo entry left too soon. Complete race results are available on Drag Race Central.

IHRA Division 1: Wesley Washington won Satursay’s Top Dragster contest at the Skyview Drags in New York, defeating Russ Denmark in a tight drag race all the way to the stripe. And in Top Sportsman, bob Phillips left just a tick too soon, handing Ronnie Proctor an easy victory. On Sunday, Bryan Worner used a stellar .006 reaction time to take the Super Stock crown, while Russell Linke edged out DJ Rasier by a scant .0080 second to earn the Stock Eliminator trophy. IHRA Division 4: Scott Barker won Top Dragster at the Dallas Raceway on Sunday, using a better reaction time to down opponent Austin Cowan, while Mike Cobb cruised to the Top Sportsman victory when Kamron Wright slowed. Friday Nite Rage: Mark McElwee took his second straight win in the Ultimate Dragster 10.5 category in Indianapolis on Friday night, running a 4.09 to defeat Lynn Smalley after earlier using a 4.01 to qualify atop the field. Jacob Young took Outlaw Limited Street honors with a 5.00 rout of top qualifier Mark Woodruff, and Kevin Neal parked his Mustang in victory lane in True Street with a 4.84 to 5.89 win over Darrn Hilterbrand. Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals – Bristol, TN
Larry Dixon earned his first win of the season in Top Fuel in a great drag race with Antron Brown, while Robert Hight won his fourth of the year and Mike Edwards took his third straight Bristol win in Pro Stock with a defeat of a surprising Eric Enders. Melanie Troxel also earned her her second Pro Modified win and first this season for a turbocharged entry with her rout of Danny Rowe.
