At its heart, drag racing is all about two people lining up their rides to see who is the better racer and who has the quicker ride. The level of competition varies from the grass roots bracket racer all the way up to big show nitro racers, but the one thing that remains the same is that drive to beat the person in the other lane. At Willowbank Raceway in Australia, one of America’s most well-known street legal racers, Jeff Lutz, made an appearance to race anybody and everybody, including a screw-blown Top Doorslammer.

Lutz is known the world over for his ability to wheel any type of door car out there, and has won everything from an NMCA Pro Modified title, to the Hot Rod Drag Week Unlimited class crown. Besides his championships, Lutz has been featured on Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws taking on the boys from OKC and giving them a run for their money.

Lutz recently loaded up one of his familiar street legal 1957 Chevrolets for a trip halfway around the world for the Lights Out Grudge Racing event. There, Lutz showed his determination by taking on Australian star Ben Bray’s screw-blown Corvete. Michael “Gup” Gilbert’s Lights Out Grudge event is a bit different than the one here in the United States, as it features some serious clocks-off racing. The event also includes call-out races between classes, so spectators were treated to Top Doorslammer cars racing some of the quickest imports in the world.

In this video from Drag Videos Australia, you get to see Lutz and Bray square off with the clocks off and cash on the line. Lutz’ “Evil Twin” Chevy goes straight down the 1320. Lutz made Bray work for the victory after his car spun hard, but he was able to come from behind to turn on the win light.
