The Goodguys Rod and Custom Association kicks off their 2016 Vintage Drag Racing series Friday, July 8th at National Trail Raceway in Hebron Ohio. This event is held in conjunction with the Goodguys 19th Annual PPG Nationals at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus. These two events combine for a supersized amount of killer classic cars, and great racing action.
The Goodguys Vintage Drags will debut the new Late Model classes as part of their expanded racing program. Racers can run in the 1/4-mile Pro class with no electronics, or they can participate in the 1/8-mile Super Pro class that allows electronics. Both of these classes are open to all makes and models of American cars, dragsters included!
Besides the debut of the Late Model classes, the standard vintage racing will still be run at the event. Racers will have their choice to compete in Hot Rod I and II, where the cars must be from ‘54 and earlier. The classes Street Machine I and II is an option for racers with new musclecars that fall into the years of ’55-’72. All of these classes are split up by their elapsed times to help keep the racing fun, and fair.
As part of the program the Ohio Outlaw Gassers will be on the property in their period correct racecars putting on a show for everyone. If all of that racing action wasn’t enough, the Goodguys Vintage Drag Racing series put a nitro-flavored cherry on top for the fans. Making passes down National Trail Raceway will be Fuel Altereds Rat Trap and Nanook as part of the exhibition program. Besides the Fuel Alterds, Bazz Young and Anthony Bronge will be wheeling their nostalgia nitro Funny Cars for everyone to enjoy.
