Big action doesn’t require a large tire in the No Prep racing world because the Small Tire class warriors are always ready to put on a show. These racers represent the largest group who are willing to take the challenge of running big power on a small tire on a track with almost no glue. At the Bounty Hunters No Prep Nationals, the winner of the Small Tire class will be getting the biggest payday ever, and that’s bringing in the best in the country to San Antonio Raceway this March 10-11th for this huge race.
The Bounty Hunters event already has more cars pre-registered in the Small Tire class than were on the property in 2016 due to this massive payout. At last count over 60 of the baddest 28-inch tall tire cars were signed up to take a shot at the payday. According to promoter Matt Plotkin, the level of money on the line has never been thrown at the Small Tire class racers before. “This is a $25,000-to-win race, and to my knowledge, this is the first time a payday this big has been given to the winner of a small tire No Prep race.”
With that kind of purse on the line, it’s no surprise that the biggest names in No Prep racing are going to show up. Street Outlaws star Chris “BoostedGT” Hamilton has already signed up and will be bringing the heat. “BoostedGT went to the semi-finals last year so he’s looking to go all the way this time around. Rumor is, he’s having a new turbo kit made and will be a threat, for sure. He’s also a fan favorite in the pits, the people here in San Antonio love him because of how approachable he is, so it will be great to have him back,” Plotkin says.
Another big name coming to the event will be Casey Rance, who will be running more than one class, according to Plotkin. “Rance will be running both Outlaw Street and the Small Tire class. He’s my pick to win Outlaw Street and will really have a shot at winning Small Tire, too. His Nissan 240 doesn’t look like anything crazy, but it just works so people underestimate him — that’s a mistake.”
The one to watch in the Small Tire class when the money is on the line is none other than veteran racer Keith Szabo. “Szabo will be coming to the event and he’s my pick to win the small-tire class. He’s nearly unstoppable on the track and usually only loses when he beats himself. The guy is just so consistent and will be a threat to go rounds, for sure. No matter what track it is or what the conditions are, he’s able to go from A to B”, Plotkin explains.
