Extracting every ounce of efficiency from a racecar reaps great rewards on the elapsed time and mile-per-hour department, which along with consistency, is key in the minds of every drag racer. The best part of this process is all the ways it can be done. An area you can find some of that hidden-efficiency horsepower is in the driveline of the car, specifically the transmission and its components. Coan Racing now offers a line of aluminum pumps for the TH350 and TH400 transmissions that not only add horsepower through efficiency, but will make the transmission more durable, as well.
Coan’s aluminum pumps have been designed from the start to be an improvement over the stock parts by making the transmission function better in all areas. The pumps are made of high-quality aluminum, so there’s a large weight savings, and they’re fully machined to improve the overall finish. The pump’s passages have been machined rather than cast and that provides good consistency when it comes to performance. The pump also receives a special anodized hard coating to help with wear protection, along with a dry-film lubrication for pump gears to add more protection.
The pumps are available as a stock replacement and a low volume version that has less face width on the gears to free up horsepower. For the GM pumps, Coan offers these in the six or eight-bolt configuration depending on your application. The TH350 transmission pump is only available in the low-volume configuration from Coan right now.
