You’ve just spent a pretty penny on an even prettier set of new wheels. You buy your tires and visit your nearest tire and wheel shop to have them mounted and balanced, only to have the technician put a gouge in your brand new hoops in the process, leaving you sick to your stomach and unable to un-see what’s been done (even if no one else can see the blemish but you). The reality is, it does happen, and mistakes can even happen if you mount your own tires in your garage.
Aiming not only to remedy the possibility of costly mistakes like this, but also to simplify the wheel and tire buying process by creating a one-stop shop, RC Components has borrowed a page from its long-standing motorcycle wheel operations by offering its racing wheel customers the option of buying their setups lock, stock, and barrel, right out of the box. RC Components has partnered with Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels to carry their many popular radial drive tires and frontrunners, which customers can order pre-mounted and balanced to their new Comp Series wheels. In doing so, you save yourself the time and hassle of finding a shop to mount and balance the tires, get to hang on to a little coin, and you don’t run the risk of someone getting in a hurry and scratching up your brand new anodized or polished race wheel.
RC Components launched the program in late summer, and according to RC’s Chris Cross, they keep many of the popular radials and slicks in stock, meaning there’s no additional lead-time to mount and balance and ship the wheels. RC has for years had a pseudo- distribution relationship with Avon Tires, from whom they buy tires “by the semi truck full” for their motorcycle wheels, and Cross says that forging a similar deal with Mickey Thompson on the racing side is “a great thing to have.”
