VETERANS AND FIRST-TIMERS WIN AT SGMPThe ADRL racers put on a thrilling, record-setting event at South Georgia Motorsports Park, despite racing with heavy hearts after the loss of one of their own in a freak pit accident on Saturday morning. Veterans Jason Scruggs and Mike Castellana grabbed wins in Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous respectively, Todd Moyer won his first Extreme 10.5 Minuteman and Steven Boone his first in Extreme Pro Stock, while Ashley Owens dominated the Pro Extreme Motorcycle field. ADRL: Same day coverage on DRAGZINE. The highly-anticipated ADRL Hardee’s Georgia Drags VI powered into south Georgia Motorsports Park, where veterans Jason Scruggs and Mike Castellana joined Ashley Owens and first time winners Todd Moyer and Steven Boone in the winners circle. NHRA Division 3: The NHRA North Central Division racers gave it a valiant effort, but Mother Nature won out this weekend at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, IN. Most classes recieved a qualifying run before the rains came. The makeup date is set for May 21-22. Qualifying recap at NHRA.com.
NHRA Division 4: The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series rolled through the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX this weekend. Newcomer Kristen Wootton grabbed the Top Alcohol Dragster title with a final round win. And Top Alcohol Funny Car heavyweights Tony Bartone and Jay Payne faced off in the final round, with Bartone coming away the victor. NHRA Division 5: The NHRA’s West Central division racers made their way to the S.R.C.A Dragstrip in Great Bend, KS for their first race of the season. Jim Whiteley and Kirk Williams won Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, respectively, and Matt Harris took home the Competition Eliminator crown. IHRA Pro-Am: The Heat Wave Division 2 competitors visited sunny Palm Beach International Raceway in West Palm Beach, FL for their third and fourth events on the schedule. On Saturday, Trae Miller grabbed the Top Dragster win with a final round defeat of Melissa Hutson, and Norm Williams topped Bob Barnes in Top Sportsman. Sunday’s action saw Deborah Bogle with the win in Quick Rod over a red-lighting Steve Muller, and Manny Sousa came out on top in a tight 0.0016-second Stock eliminator final round defeat of Gary Ranno. X275 Drag Radial: A race recap and photos are available here on DRAGZINE. Dan Whetstine captured the X275 Drag Radial title at Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, MD, besting Bobby Flippin in the final round. Chris Evans was the #1 qualifier and later made the first 4-second pass in X275 trim, a 4.999.
TSDRA: The True Street Drag Racing series’ first event of 2010 at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI was washed out by rain. A makeup date has not yet been set, but stay tuned to Dragzine.com and we’ll update you on the event when it is back underway.
