There can be no doubt that the Coyote V8 engine found in the 2011 Mustang GT is a very capable engine. It’s been out for less than two years, but tuners and racers are finding ways to coax more and more power out of the motor, often with very little internal modification. And while 412 horsepower is impressive, with some forced induction the Coyote V8 really wakes up.
Need proof? Just check out this video of a twin-turbo system developed by John Lund Racing. On a stock engine, with a stock torque converter, and stock rear end gears, this twin-turbo Mustang ran a 10.23 at 139 mph.
An earlier dyno video shows that this twin-turbo beast made 791 horsepower and 675 ft-lbs of torque using the twin-turbo system and MS109 racing fuel. On the drag strip, using what looks to be an otherwise factory Mustang, this combination went 10.23 at 139 mph. We don’t have to tell you that that is really fast…and they have dubbed it as the quickest turbo 4V 5.0 Mustang out there right now.
One thing we can all agree on is that the new 2011 Mustang GT is an all around amazing automobile. The Coyote V8 in particular is the strong point of the whole package, cranking out almost 800 horsepower on the stock internals and valvetrain. Ford really nailed this motor, and it feels like we’ve only scratched the surface of the performance potential of this engine.
