Video: Slammed Volkswagen Panel Van that packs a punch (no pun intended)

Who doesn’t like the classic Volkswagen Type 2 van? Honestly, now?  The thing just seems to get cooler with age, and the styling cues that they can and have been given are endless.  From bone stock, to the carpeted hippie van look, to the slammed V-8 performance vehicle, it’s all been done and it all evokes the extra cool factor.

We found this video feature on YouTube (tipped off by Cam Benty from Flowmaster) of a Type 2 panel van that looks like something Batman might’ve fought crime with in the 1960’s. Slammed on the ground with an eery and intimidating flat black paint job and massive side vents along each side, the wide slicks out back and skinnies just visible under the wheel wells provide a little glimpse of what this van is really up to.

Inside, you won’t find a love seat and a disco ball for treating the ladies to a good time.  Instead, lurking behind the large side panel doors is a 468 cubic inch Big Block Chevrolet.  Flowmaster Mufflers graciously offered a set of prototype mufflers with 5-inch inlets and outlets for this groovy ride, giving it that distinct sound to match the rumbling V-8.  In the back, along with a 22 gallon racing fuel cell and the batteries rests two nitrous bottles feeding a 150 horsepower shot when needed or just desired to the big Bowtie.

Inside, you’ll find a front seat that is actually the back seat from a 1999 Chevy Cavalier, Autometer gauges, and a shifter handle taken from a…. hospital labor bed, of all places.  And this baby has air conditioning to boot.  The interior fender wells were taken from a flatbed open trailer, presumably altered due to the body drop. It also sports a 1991 Astro Van front suspension. The owner proudly indicated that he drives his creation every day, and with that kind of horsepower and 19 miles per gallon fuel mileage, who wouldn’t.
