Here’s one that sure to get the testosterone pumping.
During this weekend’s annual March Meet at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., Hot Rods by Stith and its new Legends of Nitro brand of nostalgic t-shirts will hot the inaugural Legends of Nitro Back-up Girl Competition, awarding $250 to the winner and $100 to the runner-up of this new competition.
“Contestants in the Nitro Back-up Girl contest must stop by to register at the Legends of Nitro trailer prior to the final round of nitro qualifying on Saturday to receive your official LON Back-up Girl T-shirt, and this is open to both Top Fuel and Funny Car team members competing at the March Meet,” said Keith Stith, owner of Hot Rods by Stith. He added, “We’ll throw in an additional $50 for the “hottest” Back-up Girl in the eyes of our judges; the March Meet spectators. We expect that some teams may already be looking for a new team member to handle this specialized chore!”
Following the opening round of eliminations in Top Fuel and Funny Car on Satursay, Marxh 3, announcer Mike English will crown the winner and the runner-up.
The practice of an attractive – and oftentimes scantily clad – backup girl harken back to the glory days of the 1960’s and 70’s when “Jungle” Pam and others captured the imagination of young men everywhere, and while they’re not as prevalent as they once were, competitions like this are just what’s needed to bring the ladies back to the dragstrip. No doubt, it’s certainly going to be one of the hottest attractions of this year’s March Meet.
Per the official rules and despite the name of the contest, the Back-up Girl Competition is in fact open to all sexes and species, but men are required to cut their ponytails prior to the judging. Thanks to this little caveat, the contest could interesting and downright hilarious.
