Currie Enterprises turned heads at the SEMA show in 2017 with the release of its Turn 9 lightweight housings. The line has been so successful that the Currie engineering team went to work on a completely new line based on the popularity of the Turn 9 housings.
Company spokesman Jake Amatisto explained the premise behind the new Light 9 chromoly fabricated housings. “This line of Currie chromoly fabricated housings offer a lightweight option for anyone looking for creative ways to save weight in their race car,” he said.
“These lightweight rearends will also be good additions to any muscle car or hot rod,” he added. “They are based on the tried-and-true Ford 9-inch rearends, but feature 4130 construction and the early large-bearing housings.”
According to Amatisto, “The large-bearing housings accommodate a larger 45mm axle core at the wheel bearing journal for added strength.”
Amatisto said other options include a windowed back brace that undergoes a dimple-die procedure, which helps drop even more weight without sacrificing strength. “Combine this housing with Currie’s new lightened axles, and a racing brake package from Wilwood or Baer brakes, for a complete performance package,” he advised.
