The Honda Civic — a car that most view as an affordable and reliable form of transportation, not something that is likely to rip off low 9-second passes in full street trim. But you see, Rob Courtney didn’t get that memo, and he’s created one gnarly Honda.
Courtney’s Civic makes 900 horsepower…oh and it’s also all-wheel-drive.
Courtney purchased his 1995 Civic EG coupe nearly 20 years ago as a shell and hasn’t stopped working on it since. A parts car was purchased to help get the Civic back on the road by providing all the missing pieces to the automotive puzzle. A Honda K-series engine now calls the Civic home, and the engine is fully built so it can accept plenty of boost from a single Precision 6466 turbo.
A Honda Civic didn’t come from the factory with an AWD option, so Courtney had to get creative with his build; he used the transmission from a Honda CRV and some other Honda parts to convert his Civic to an AWD monster. This Civic isn’t a gutted racecar, though…it still has a full interior with power windows that are accented by an 8.50-cert roll cage. Courtney still drives the Civic on the street regularly to local events and has even driven it across the state of Pennsylvania to attend a race at Atco Dragway.
In this video from That Racing Channel, you can see just how stock the Civic looks, but you also get to witness how brutally quick it can accelerate. Courtney clicks off an impressive 9.28-second lap in his Civic while ripping gears at TX2K.
