Donald “Duck” Long and his team at Duck X Productions helped elevate radial tire racing to a new level over the last decade. Lights Out, No Mercy, and The Sweet 16 have all been amazing standalone events, but now that’s about to change. The FuelTech Radial Outlaw Series (FROS) is a collaboration between Long and several tracks to crown series champions in the radial racing world.
The 2022 FROS will feature Pro 275, X-Treme275 (based on X275 rules), Outlaw Drag Radial (based on Limited Drag Radial rules), and Ultimate Street (based on Ultra Street rules) as its main classes. Long and his partners didn’t want to pile more racing dates on the calendar, so they got together with established events for the series to follow. The FROS will be contested at the Sweet 16, US Street Nationals, Lights Out 13, Alabama Radial Outlaws, No Mercy 13, Orlando World Street Nationals, and the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals.
Long will be the first one to tell you that the FROS has been on the board for a while, but it was the push of his sponsors that brought it to life.
“This has been talked about for several years, but the sponsors are the ones that really wanted to see it come to life. Companies like FuelTech, Proline Racing, Energy, Callies, Scott Tidwell Racing, and M&M Transmission were all pushing me to see if we could crown a radial tire champion. We have these awesome one-off races and there are some others out there too, but we want to see who can be consistent over several races to win it all. The sponsors want something where it’s more organized so we can see who the true champion is in radial racing. Pro Mod has their own champions and this will do it for radials.”
Duck X Production races have put up some of the biggest purses in all heads-up drag racing. Long wanted to make sure radial racers would be rewarded for racing the series and the payouts for the FROS are proof of this. The series format is something that Long hopes will help racers plan a full year of racing.
“I want racers to see and know they have a place to come race these cars that they work so hard on. All of the classes we’re running are awesome and I want to see them flourish. I would like to see everyone be able to come together in the racing world too. There has been some distance between tracks and hard feelings, I want to move past that so we can keep people coming to the races. I think it’s time for this to happen, and there are more tracks that have expressed interest to join the series in the future,” Long says.
