Pro Modified racer Wayne Roberts, of Valley City, Kansas, was uninjured in a frightening on-track accident at the Throwdown In T-Town at the Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma. Roberts, in his supercharged Corvette, was competing in the Great Bend, Kansas makeup race, as part of the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, when he lost control just off the starting line and shot across the racetrack, striking the wall head-on near the 200-foot mark. The impact spun the car around and onto its roof, where it came to a stop in the center of the racetrack. Roberts was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, and returned to the racetrack the following day.
Brian Lewis, in the opposing lane, broke the blower belt right at the hit, helping to avoid what could have been a much worse situation.
Veteran photographer Patrick “Red” Williams captured the entire ordeal from the top end of the racetrack, in a scene that has drawn plenty of eyeballs around social media. Scroll down to see the full sequence.
