New Vortech V-13 Delivers Power Gains As Advertised

This summer, Vortech Engineering dropped its latest supercharger in development, the new V-13 94C, which was designed as an upgrade for users of the V7 YSi-B that’s been popular on everything from high-horsepower street cars to drift machines and everything in between.

The V-13 94C centrifugal supercharger sports an all-billet, heavy-duty gear case, and is the real deal; an actual “big power in a compact compressor.” It is a direct upgrade for those looking for the next logical horsepower step beyond the V-7 units, continuing the tradition of durability and high efficiency in a compressor stage.

The V-13 94C features an internal step-up ratio of 3.45:1, a maximum speed of 65,000 RPM, max boost of more than 35 psi, maximum flow of over 1,950 cfm, max power over 1,500, and peak efficiency of 78 percent. The unit also drops right into any brackets that hold the V-7.

Customers, like the crew at Satera Tuning in Illinois, have gotten ahold of the new V-13’s and put them through their paces. Satera recently took a 2017 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 392 with a V-7 and swapped it over to a V-13 for a rip on the dyno.

The Challenger features a Cam Motion custom high-RPM cam and supporting valvetrain upgrades, 2-inch long tube headers, a Fore Innovations return-style fuel system with Injector Dynamics ID1700x injectors, a Holley Sniper Race manifold, a complete HP90 transmission swap, a 3.125-inch upper pulley, and an ATI Performance Products 10 percent lower pulley.

With nothing other than a swap of the supercharger, the car produced 1,246 horsepower and 929 lb-ft of torque, for a gain of more than 120 rear wheel horsepower (and an additional 2 psi with the same pulley) over the V-7. Other enthusiasts and tuners have noted similar power gains, and notably, power that continues into higher engine RPM ranges, where the V-7 would begin to level off or lose power. Advertised to produce 100-plus more horsepower than its predecessor, we’d day it delivers. Keep ask eye out for more o the V-13, as more enthusiasts get their hands on this unit.
