The Wally Parks Tower At Indy Is Growing

Wally Parks Tower under construction

The roar of engines at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) will soon have a new companion—a state-of-the-art Wally Parks Tower rising to redefine the fan and race team experience. As construction moves forward at full throttle, this project marks a significant step in IRP’s multi-year transformation plan.

The new Wally Parks Tower, a striking three-story facility, is taking shape with its steel frame complete and concrete pours underway for each level. In just a few weeks, the building will be fully enclosed, and the observation deck’s canopy—the final piece of the structure—will start to take form. Designed with an open-air covered roof, the deck will serve as an event space for up to 500 people, offering unparalleled views of the track.

Inside, the tower blends function with modern comfort. It will house race control, a media center, TV broadcast facilities, and three spacious suites on the top floor. The tower also includes dedicated restrooms, an elevator, and a staircase, ensuring accessibility for all.

“Every day we continue to make big leaps, so it’s a very exciting time,” said Kasey Coler, NHRA Vice President of Track Management and Operations. “Garmong Construction has done a great job keeping us on track and working with subcontractors to ensure there are no issues with staff and supplies. The quality has been superb, and we’re thrilled to see the progress on such a major project that will provide improvements for our race teams, fans, partners, media, and race officials.”

The upgrades don’t stop there. IRP’s eight west-side grandstand suites are undergoing a complete remodel, paired with the installation of new elevators to enhance convenience for guests.

But the plans extend well beyond 2024. A major drainage and ditch realignment project, slated for 2025, will lay the groundwork for long-term improvements, including a new west-side entrance, expanded parking, and the relocation of professional pits, the manufacturers’ midway, and fan experiences to the west side of the track.

Ahead of the 71st Annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals on Aug. 27 to Sept. 1, IRP is planning a community open house to showcase these upgrades.

“We’re hitting these great milestones heading into 2025 and we’re really excited to present the new Wally Parks Tower and our renovated suites next summer,” Coler said.
