Following a record-setting event out west just weeks ago, the promoters known as The Fling Team bring their original spring bracket race East this week. Hundreds of sportsman drag racers head to GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, North Carolina, for the Strange Engineering Spring Fling presented by OPTIMA Batteries, chasing huge daily payouts.
This event holds history as the first “Fling” race organized back in 2010 by partners Peter Biondo and the late Kyle Seipel. After initially running at Bristol Dragway, the Spring Fling found a new home at the renovated GALOT Motorsports Park facility in 2017 and continues there, attracting top-bracket racing talent from across the nation.
The action-packed week kicks off Tuesday with a Test and Tune session sponsored by Rob’s Auto and Collision, giving racers a chance to get their cars dialed in for GALOT’s track surface. Tuesday evening features the high-stakes RAD Torque Systems $20,000 Shootout, offering an early chance at a big win.
Then, the main event purses climb significantly through the week. Advanced Product Design sponsors Wednesday’s race, paying $15,000 to the winner. The stakes jump higher on JEGS Performance Thursday, with $50,000 on the line for the day’s champion.
That $50,000-to-win payday repeats on Silver State Refrigeration Friday and again on Wiseco Performance Products Saturday, giving racers three consecutive shots at a major score.
Fling promoter Peter Biondo reflected on their original goal from 2010 using the tagline “Race It. Experience It.” He emphasized wanting to put “bracket racers on the big stage” while “creating an experience that hopefully they will remember for years to come.”
In addition to the guaranteed race purses, the event includes over $55,000 worth of product giveaways distributed throughout the week, a Laris Motorsports Insurance Racer Appreciation Party for competitors, and the Glenn Development Fling Fun Zone to entertain younger family members.
Fans who cannot make it to GALOT can follow the intense bracket racing action live all week. The event streams exclusively on the RaceTheFlings YouTube channel, thanks to sponsors Hoosier Racing Tire and Robco Residential. This year’s stream adds a new feature: a live drone camera providing unique aerial views of the racing. This original Spring Fling promises wall-to-wall action as hundreds of drivers battle for prestigious trophies and life-changing payouts in North Carolina.
