NHRA: Event Recap on DRAGZINE. Fan favorite drivers David Grubnic and Jack Beckman scored for the first time in 2012 in Top Fuel and Funny Car, respectively, at the NHRA Summernationals at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas on Sunday. Grubnic edged Spencer Massey in the money round, running 3,89 to Massey’s 3.91. Beckman, who has seen a complete transformation of his race team this season, turned back teammate Ron Capps in a huge holeshot victory as the former racing school instructor and sportsman racing champ nailed a near-perfect .004 reaction time in the final. NHRA Division 3: The NHRA’s North Central Division wasted little time getting back in action over the weekend with the second event on the schedule at the Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, where Ken Perry headed up victory lane with his winy in Top Alcohol Dragster after a final round bout with Marty Thacker. Chris Foster defended the home turf in Top Alcohol Funny Car, defeating John Anderika in a tight 5.74 to 5.75 final round matchup, and Jason Coan used a better light and ran further under the index to claim the Competition Eliminator title in his F/ED. Spring Fling 20s: Marty Dabney (Friday), Bob Maclosky (Saturday), and Denver Maltba (Sunday) claimed the $20,000 top prizes on their respective days as the Bristol Dragway once again hosted the annual K&N Spring Fling 20s, which also awarded a host of other cash prizes and awards throughout the weekend. Throw Down In T-Town: Brandon Pesz claimed the Pro Mod Extreme title at the annual Throw Down in T-Town at the Tulsa Raceway Park, cruising to the win as opponent Duane Rister broke and was unable to challenge for the title. In Open Pro Mod, Duane Reisterer carded a 4.19 in the finale as his opponent, Eric Clark, also succumbed to mechanical woes. IHRA Pro-Am Division 6: Tom McAvoy claimed the Top Dragster crown on day one of the Border Bandits Division 6 event at the NL’Akapxm Motorplex in Ashcroft B.C. Canada over the weekend, defeating Trevor Ritchie with a better light and closer-to-the-dial run. Jason Miller overcame a better light by Gary Weslosky to earn the Top Sportsman title. On day two, sportsman hitter Mark Faul claimed the Super Stock win in a double breakout affair, and Sean Ferguson did likewise in Stock over Clarence Bidnak.
