Powermaster Offers HPR Alternators to Support 14 and 16 volt Batteries

Vehicle electrical systems have changed, and many racers are now stepping up to higher voltage batteries to handle the extra loads. Depending on your application, a 14 or even 16-volt battery might be required when you’re running a modern high-performance engine. Thankfully, Powermaster Performance recently expanded their alternator line with their Fixed Voltage Hairpin Replacement (HPR) alternators that will service these batteries and work with LS, GEN 3 HEMI, and Coyote-based engines.

When you’ve built a vehicle that requires a lot of electronics to function, more voltage is going to be required. Now, add an engine that’s running a large fuel pump and has a lot of compression, you’ll definitely need upgraded batteries. If you move to a 14 or 16-volt battery, the alternator you run will need to be compatible. For a typical 12-volt battery, the alternator charges at 14.8, while a 14-volt battery requires 16.8, and there are two 16-volt battery options; one charges at 17.5 the other at 18.2. Check with your battery manufacturer for their charge recommendation.

Powermaster offers two HPR Alternators, a small frame that covers most older applications, and the large frame for late model engines. The small frame HPR alternator can crank out 145 amps at idle, 165 amps while cruising, and 180 amps at the top end. What if you need more current than that? The large frame HPR alternator can generate 195 amps at idle, 215 amps while cruising, and 250 amps at the top end.

These alternators have been designed to be direct bolt-on parts for LS, GEN 3 HEMI, and Coyote engines as well as popular ‘60s-‘90s applications. All of the Fixed Voltage HPR alternators have a one-wire connection and available with different pulley sizes.
