One of the most popular tracks in the south, Darlington Dragway, has been sold. The track opened in 1976 and has seen some of the best drag racers in the world make laps down its surface. Now, the legendary facility is preparing to begin a new era with fresh ownership.
It was announced on July 29th that Nasty Racing, which is run by racer John Dougherty, had purchased the facility in Hartsville, South Carolina. In the announcement, it was stated that the new ownership group had big plans for the facility.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to help grow/promote the great sport of drag racing while supporting the local community here in South Carolina. We will be doing a number of renovations and upgrades to the facility to bring the racers and spectators the best possible racing and entertainment we can!”
Darlington Dragway is known for having a top-tier surface. The track is fast and has hosted major bracket races, divisional meets, large no-time events, and other national touring sanctioning bodies have held races at the track. We will follow this situation and provide more updates as they become available.
