Picture this: you’re trying to make several passes at the track to gather data, but heat soak just keeps creeping into your engine. That heat soak robs the engine of horsepower and eats away at your E.T. each pass. Cool Racing Parts has developed several high-performance cooling products, including EFI Cooling Blankets that help to fight heat soak and allow your vehicle to remain consistent at the track.
The high-performance cooling products that Cool Racing Parts created have a wide range of applications and uses. They’re easy to use and are reusable, so it’s a one-time investment that can net measurable performance gains.
We plan on taking Project Red Dragon to the track soon for some testing and want to be able to make as many passes as possible. The turbo system under the hood of the car generates a ton of heat, so using a couple of Cool Racing Products EFI Blankets should help to reduce heat soak to a certain degree. There’s only one way to see if they work, and that’s to test them.
On a nice 90-degree day, we took the Red Dragon out for a spin to make sure our new transmission and torque converter were good to go. Before we left, our EFI Blankets were activated and sitting at around 45 degrees. We drove the car for about 15 minutes around the countryside and brought it into the shop to see how much heat the blankets could soak up.
The LS6 intake was at 122 degrees, and our charge pipe was sitting at 100 degrees after the drive. We put the EFI Blankets on and let them sit, and after 15 minutes, the intake was already down to 115 degrees, and the charge pipe registered 93 degrees. After another 15 minutes, the intake was at 90 degrees and the charge pipe was at 88 degrees. We could physically feel a difference in the temperature of both parts.
So obviously, the EFI blankets did absorb some measurable heat. Since we really couldn’t place the blankets in optimal positions, there’s a good chance they left some cooling ability on the table. If we had a second set of blankets to rotate in, the temperature drop would have increased.
Based on this test and the results teams have seen with the Cool Racing Parts transmission blankets, the products work. If used correctly, these high-performance cooling products could really help to reduce the temperatures of parts in many different scenarios.
