The 2025 season will be the last for the multi-purpose Fayetteville Drag Strip and Fayetteville Motor Speedway in southeastern North Carolina, its promoters and land owners have confirmed.
Opened in 1968 with a half-mile asphalt oval track, the 500-acre Fayetteville complex today features a red clay 3/8-mile semi-banked oval and a 1/4-mile-length dragway.
“Owners of the property are selling the property as one large parcel of land for industrial/commercial use. This means we are getting ready to have the last races run at Fayetteville Motor Speedway,” current promoters David Mitchell and Shay Martin shared in a prepared statement. “We understand this is disappointing news to all those who have enjoyed coming here. A lot of people in this community have loved and supported the track for decades. You have made the track your ‘home away from home’ and shared many great memories with each other here. Our hearts are heavy for you as we make this
announcement.
We would like to thank you for your support over the past six seasons of our tenure as promoters. It’s been an exciting adventure for us, and we hope we have helped facilitate great memories for all of you with our events. Let’s enjoy a few more together as a race
community here at Fayetteville.”
Broadwell Land Company and Cumberland Speedway Corp. owner Dohn Broadwell Jr. clarified to The Fayetteville Observer that while the racetrack will indeed be closing after the 2025 season, the land has not yet been sold.
“The racetrack property is not yet sold, nor under contract. It is listed with a broker for sale as an industrial/commercial site. Soil tests and other due diligence work will begin soon as the property is studied for industrial use. We are closing the track in preparation for the due diligence work and possible sale.”
Three more events are scheduled to take place on the oval track, with the last race at the track scheduled for November 29.
