NHRA: Race Recap from Charlotte. In a battle of the heavyweights, Shawn Langdon broke through for his first professional victory on Sunday evening in Charlotte with a defeat of Tony Schumacher, also giving Al-Anabi Racing its first win of the season in Top Fuel. Incoming points leader Ron Capps scored a key victory over Mike Neff to begin the Countdown, Jason Line survived a wild final with Allen Johnson in what was an equally wild day of Pro Stock racing, and the Vance & Hines Harley Davidson’s made it 11-for-11 on the season with Andrew Hines’ fifth victory in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Also, Leah Pruett successfully defended her Pro Modified crown from last year, besting Mike Knowles in the final. For complete results from zMAX, log on to NHRA.com.

Drag Week: Drag Week Story. After some 1,400 miles through America’s heartland to the South and back, Drag Week king Larry Larson added another overall and Unlimited class victory to his resume, just barely edging out NMCA ace Jeff Lutz with a clutch, record-setting 6.94 on the final day in Tulsa to win by a mere hundredth of a second on the week-long adventure. NHRA Division 4: David Brounkowski bested Mark Taliaferro in a spectacular drag race on a holeshot, 5.409 to 5.402, to earn Top Alcohol Dragster honors at the Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Oklahoma. He was joined by John Lombardo Jr., who defeated Lance Van Hauen in the Top Alcohol funny Car final, 5.72 to 5.79. David Billingsley won Competition Eliminator, thanks to a great .006 light and a quicker -0.501 run in the final. For Sunday’s results from Noble, log on to NHRADiv4.com.

NHRA Division 5 ET Finals: Travis Smiley survived eight grueling rounds to earn the Super Pro victory at the Division 5 ET Finals at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas, defeating Glen Gordon on both ends of the racetrack for the win. He was joined by Pro winner Steve Marquis, High School champ Brian Hurley, Sportsman victor Jon Dost III, and Pro Bike’s Tom Klemme. For more from Topeka, stay tuned to NHRADiv5.com.

NHRA Division 3 ET Finals: The Beech Bend Raceway Park claimed its first-ever team championship at the NHRA North Central Division ET Finals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, edging out Illinois’ Bryon Dragway and Route 66 Raceway. Jason Bradley (Super Pro) and Evan Shoopman (Pro) headlined the winners at Indy. For results from the Summit Racing Series finals, visit NHRADiv3.com.

IHRA Division 5 Summit Team Finals: The U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, the host team, dominated the Division 5 ET Finals over the weekend, beating out second-place Grand Bend Motorplex by a whopping 35 points in the team points tally.
