Raise your hand if you’ve ever seen “Trickie” Rickie Smith wheel a supercharged race car. Yeah, we haven’t either. But that’s all about to change as Smith heads to Qatar for the Arabian Drag Racing League season opener, where he will be driving a brand spankin’ new ’69 Camaro in the Pro Extreme category over the winter.
The Bahrain Racing Camaro was built by Jerry Bickel Race Cars and will debut December 2-3. Smith has reportedly made less than 10 passes ever in a supercharged Pro Modified car, but given his natural ability both inside and outside of a race car that’s made him a drag racing legend, there’s little doubt that he’ll be in the thick of it.
“It’s going to be a different challenge, but I’m up for it and we’ll see what happens,” Smith told the ADRL’s Agent 660 in a recent interview.
Rick Hickman will serve as tuner on the overseas campaign, while Smith will handle the driving duties and suspension. Smith will be teamed up with one of the best in the business on the Bahrain squad this winter, as Pro Extreme standout and former champion Joshua Hernandez will drive for the team as well.
