Everyone remembers the classic muscle cars from year’s past. There is just something about these cars that make them so special. The sound, the smell and the power these cars had will never be replaced by today‘s fuel injected cars. In today’s world it seems like there are more and more hybrids as the gas prices keep sky rocketing towards five dollars a gallon. As some can remember back in the 1960’s when most cars on the road were muscle cars that later became classic.

If you where lucky growing up as a kid in this era you either drove in your father’s Camaro or had your own, that you could cruise the town or take it to the strip to see what kind of times you could lay down.

We came across a story over on Bangshift.com that took us back to 1964 with a good old Pontiac GTO. Even though the Goat is dead today, it was alive and well during a nostalgia race over at AFCO Dragway back in 2003. This Pontiac GTO was equipped with a 421 cubic-inch Poncho motor that was hooking all day long. The photographer was following the car all long, as in got into position for his last run, caught a perfect shot of the bumper as the GTO launched to the sky and scrapped the bumper in a huge wheelie.

The photographer said he was very lucky to get the shot as the rest of the photographers put down there cameras during the run. Since it was back in 2003 digital cameras where just starting to make an appearance into the world, so he was still rocking a film camera. The photographer was very surprised and excited to see what he captured on film when he got home.

Although we don’t know the time the GTO ran in the ¼ mile, but it had to be pretty good with a power wheelie like this one.
