Performance Concepts Shakes Down “Frozen Assets” Snow Dragster

For those of us in America that don’t call tropical or tropical-like environments home, drag racing is a sport that goes on a lengthy hiatus covering nearly half the pages of a calendar. This is torture on a racer, who can only walk out and stare at his race car in the garage for so long, and only watch the same PINKS All Out re-runs on television so many times before insanity sets in. However, if you have the money, a little ingenuity, and the wherewithal to brave the bone-chilling cold temperatures outside, drag racing doesn’t necessarily have to have an off season.

We’ve featured some ice and snowmobile drag racing here on DRAGZINE in the past, and as such, our regular readers are fully aware that this is nothing new. But going 200 miles per hour in less than a quarter mile might be.

And that’s the goal of Jim and Bernie Warning and Paul Groth with their insane creation, known as “Frozen Assets” – a Spitzer Race Cars-built dragster that’s motivated by a twin turbocharged, Proline Race Engines-repped powerplant that puts the grunt to the ground not through a set of slicks, but a massive set of studded tracks. As we understand it, in order to break the current ice speed record, the team would have to crack 200 in just 1000 feet from a standing start. That’s quite a feat on ice, but take one look at this thing blasting off the starting line and you’ll begin to think as confidently as this trio that it can be done.

Aside from the turbocharged mill that’s very reminiscent of an Outlaw Drag Radial or Outlaw 10.5 car, Frozen Assets features a quick change rear end similar to a dirt sprint car, and rides on a small set of ski’s up front. Also, as you can see in a couple of the close-up camera angles, a fluid is constantly sprayed on the tracks for lubrication. To say this piece is incredible and unique would be an understatement for the ages, and unlike the rest of us, all those involved in this project probably wish that winter would never end.
