Video: Hollis Jones’ 2,600 HP ProCharger BBC On The Dyno

Steve Morris, the engine building wizard of all things badass, is at it again, putting his own personal touch to another incredible supercharged creation — this time 565 cubic inches of Chevrolet horsepower that’s paired up with one of ProChargers’ monster F3-136 superchargers that’s helped propel a number of racers into the history books in recent months delivering the capability for more boost than you can shake a stick at. The virtually show-quality piece, touched off with polishing work on the supercharger, supercharger piping, and the valve covers, belongs to Chicago-area racer Hollis Jones, who campaigns a gorgeous big-tire 1966 Chevrolet Nova in exhibition and match races. Jones’ all-steel, all-glass beauty has been well into the low seven-second zone at over 200 mph, tipping the scales at a reported 3,300-plus pounds.

morrisThe mill that Morris has on the dyno here features a Dart cast iron block, outfitted with 14.5-degree Big Chief-style cylinder heads and a wet sump oiling system, topped with a 123mm throttle body in a blow-through configuration from the supercharger, burning methanol and utilizing a BigStuff3 fuel injection, twin Precision 550 lb/hr fuel injectors,, and a pair of Weldon fuel regulators. A unique attribute, as Morris points out, Jones has had a stainless steel supercharger blow-through pipe fabricated that transitions from 4-inches to 5-inches at the throttle body, as well.

Despite the familiar growl that a ProCharger-fed motor is known for, this beast is ultra smooth on the dyno as Morris flogs it up to over 8,000 RPM before hitting the rev limiter and clicking it off to get the numbers. And impressive they are.

Down low, at 5,500 RPM, the engine produces right at 1,500 horsepower and quickly climbs through its registered peak of 2,610 horsepower at 8,092 RPM and its peak torque of 1,730 ft/lbs. at 7,700 RPM with 42 pounds of boost. Thanks to a good number of cubes and a big blower, Jones has a product that makes a ton of power without the need to turn parts-breaking RPM’s.
