Working on a new setup with a race car can be frustrating, and often the frustration level grows quicker as the speed of the car goes up, and the elapsed times go down. Every detail needs to be double checked to be sure the new cars’ first pass down the track is not its last.  Mix in a new engine combination and things get interesting quicker than you can imagine.  FullBoost.com.au recently caught a new car on film at the track in Heathcoat: an awesome twin turbo V6 Holden that sounds (and moves) even more impressively than it looks.

 Holden has been a staple in the Australian high performance scene for a long time. The VN Holden Commodore was never produced to be a record setting race car, as these beasts rolled off the assembly line in many different forms including an economy, wagon, luxury, and even a police package version. You could actually score one with a straight four-banger all the way up to a 5.0L V8.

 To run single digits in a V6 you have to sport a pretty stout combo under the hood of your race car — certainly more ‘oomph’ than these cars came from the factory with. This Commodore brings a 3.6L V6 to the party that’s stuffed with a stock crank, hydraulic cam, H-Beam rods, Arias forged pistons, and topped off with a set of CNC ported heads. Two Garrett GT3076R turbos provide boost to the E98 fed mill. The power goes to the ground through a GZM Powerglide and TCE 4800 stall converted to a stock rear end.  Trying to shake the car down on 15 pounds of boost the car blasts off a 9.88 at 145 on 26×8.5 slicks. This car is going to be a animal when the wick gets turned up and the kill setting is found.
