In the world we live in today, there’s no question that retro is in. From clothing styles to car styles, throwback jerseys to old school race cars, what was once cool and became uncool is now cool again, and our friends at Weld Racing capitalized on the retro theme last weekend at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis as they re-introduced their timeless and classic Draglite front wheels on the big stage on the Ford Mustang Funny Cars of John Force, Courtney Force, and Robert Hight.
The wheels, which harkened back to the look of the fuel Funny Cars of the 1980’s, stood out considerably from the thin, lightweight, modern designs of today’s race wheels that the John Force Racing machines commonly ride on. And if you ask us, that’s just fine, as we’re all about the old school look.
Weld Racing was the originator of the mostly solid-face Draglite wheel design, and decades later, they still look great — even in the winners circle, where Robert Hight put them as he drove to victory on Monday at the sport’s most prestigious drag race.
Weld Racing was also represented in victory lane by customers running their revolutionary Delta-1 series race wheels, as Mike Edwards powered his Chevrolet Camaro to the win in Pro Stock over V. Gaines and his Dodge Avenger equipped with Delta-1’s, while former Lucas Oil world champion Frank Kohutek took his Delta-1 equipped dragster to the win in Super Comp.
