Garrett Debuts New SFI 61.1 Turbo for Pro Mod Racers

SONY DSCHoneywell Turbo Technologies, by way of its Garrett Aftermarket Performance Division, has just released a fresh lineup of turbochargers for Pro Mod racers to use in NHRA-sanctioned events. The SFI 61.1 specs now governing NHRA, ADRL, and X-DRL events are met by this turbo. What’s more, teams can take part in Garrett’s SFI conversion program, provided they use the current GT5518R and GTX5518R turbos.

Official Release:

Building on the success of its popular drag racing turbochargers, Honeywell Turbo Technologies (NYSE: HON) through its Garrett Aftermarket Performance division, has created a range of new SFI 61.1 Spec turbochargers for use in accordance to new rules governing many of the nation’s drag racing sanctioning bodies.

Based on the Garrett GT55R and GTX55R turbochargers, the new SFI 61.1 Spec turbos meet all requirements for the NHRA Pro Modified Class as well as those for the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), the Xtreme-Drag Racing League (X-DRL) and all others that require an SFI 61.1 spec turbocharger.

The new turbochargers give racers a choice of bolted inlet flange turbine housings available in 1.00 A/R and 1.24 A/R or v-band inlet flange turbine housings available in 1.15 A/R and 1.30 A/R sizes.  The stainless steel v-band inlet housings offer a 10-pound weight savings over the bolted inlets while the bolted inlet housings carry on the traditional T6 flanged turbine inlet design.

“With some of the sanctioning bodies making changes in their turbocharger specs for the 2013 racing season, we wanted to ensure that we provided our racing customers with the best options for the new rules and kept with our tradition of supplying safe, reliable, and high performing products,” said Justin Ocello, Garrett Performance Product Leader. “The NHRA Pro Mod cars are looking to make as much as 4,000 horsepower during a run and Garrett turbochargers are a vital part of helping racers get down the strip faster.”

In addition to the new SFI 61.1 Spec turbochargers, Garrett is providing an SFI Conversion program available for current GT5518R and GTX5518R turbochargers in use.

Features:

  • Meets SFI 61.1 specs
  • Stainless steel v-band inlet housings offer a 10-pound weight savings over the bolted inlets
  • Drivers using GT5518R/GTX5518R turbos can take advantage of Garrett’s SFI conversion program
