Holley LS Fest: Race recap from Bowling Green. LSX Drag Radial No. 1 qualifier Mike Brown parlayed his strong qualifying performance into a race win at the annual Holley LS Fest in Bowling Green, Ky. over the weekend, defeating Andy Essary in the final round with a 7.11. David Adkins put together a strong 4.54 best from his LSX-powered Chevy Impala to take Pro LSX honors, while Ray Litz scored in the Shut Your Face class with his Camaro, topping No. 1 qualifier Steve Hopkins in the final, 4.93 to 4.94.
ADRL: Brandon Snider charged to the Pro Extreme title at the ADRL’s Dragstock X at the Rockingham Dragway, defeating the heavily favored No. 1 qualifier Alex Hossler in the final. Jason Harris downed Tommy Franklin in an all-Pat Musi powered Pro Nitrous finale, and Ruben T bested Jason Michalak for Pro Drag Radial honors. Von Smith (Pro Extreme), Pat Stoken (Pro Nitrous), Scott Hintz (Extreme Pro Stock), and Rickie Smith (Pro Mod) were among the Battle For The Belts winners on Friday evening, taking home the big checks from the ADRL in the special bonus race. NMCA WEST: No. 1 qualifier Scott Oksas downed all-comers to win Pro Street as the NMCA WEST rolled into Las Vegas over the weekend. Oksas was joined by Al Jimenez, who won True 10.5 with a 7.22 in the final over a red-lighting Rick Snavely, along with 275 Drag Radial winner Kevin Young, who drove his ’86 Camaro to the win over our very own Project BlownZ in the final. NHRA Division 1: Kyle Cultrera won in Competition Eliminator with his ’32 Bantam altered at the Northeast division’s final event of the season at Raceway Park in Englishtown, defeating Chip Ippolito and his Pro Stock Truck/Automatic machine in the final. John Kakalecik drove his ’70 Barracuda to the winners circle in Super Stock and Katie Sepanek won out in Stock Eliminator in her I/SA Chevelle. NHRA Division 5: The West Central division also closed its 2013 season with a visit to the Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Ia. over the weekend, where Jared Dreher used a nice 5.48 to upset Gord Gingles in Top Alcohol Dragster. Top Alcohol Funny Car top qualifier Kirk Williams powered to victory over Lance Van Hauen, and reigning world champ Bruno Massel took his Chevy Cobalt to victory lane in Comp Eliminator as final round opponent Brian Browell fouled out. IHRA Division 2: Jim Cairnes and Mandy Teets-Seal opened the weekend at the Darlington Dragway with wins in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster, respectively, while Stacy Hall and Steven Hester followed them with wins on day two to close the Division 2 Pro-Am racing season.
