Heavy stock-bodied cars powered my monstrous twin-turbocharged powerplants riding on stock suspension and a small set of radials or slicks may be a southern-bred thing, but this style of racing has certainly exceeded the bounds of both the South and the continental United States over the years.

Some of the quickest and fastest street cars in Australia were the featured attraction at the recent Street Machine Nationals held at Sydney Dragway, and the biggest story to come out of the popular event was the record-setting 201 mph blast by Daniel Nunziante in his just plain badass Ford Cortina in the Modified Street Blown category.

As you can see on Nunziante’s earlier attempts at the Sydney quarter mile, the horsepower and torque being produced by the 417 cubic inch twin-turbo mill makes this Ford of Britain-built ride a handful of a ride as it either blows the tires off or hangs the hoops all the way down the race track. But with darkness upon the strip in Sydney, Nunziante finally gets all his P’s and Q’s in order and charges hard all the way through the boards, cranking off a 7.195 at a record 201.70 mph to a round of applause from the Aussie drag racing faithful.

Cars in the Modified Street Blown category are required to run stock suspension front and rear with a maximum tire width of 12.5-inches. Nunziante’s car sports a set of 28″x11.5″ slicks out back.
