The ADRL‘s Pro Extreme class features the baddest of the bad in the world of doorslammer racing, with eighth-mile times in the mid 3.50’s and speeds well over 210 MPH. This past weekend at the ADRL’s World Finals at Royal Purple Raceway in Texas, two-time Pro Extreme champion Jason Scruggs’ insane 1963 Corvette recorded the highest speed in Pro Extreme history not once, but three times during the course of the event.

After qualifying at the top of the field with an outstanding, record-setting 3.527 at 218.34 MPH (his first record-breaking number of the weekend) ahead of Alex Hossler, Scruggs was in prime position to take home the weekend payday entering eliminations.

There, he’d face off against Wesley Jones in the first round, carding a 3.68 at 211.53 to Jones’ losing 3.94 pass.

The second round matchup against Todd Martin saw the scoreboards light up with a 3.55 at 219.33 MPH to back up the speed record, while Martin’s 3.63/210 pass earned him the trailer ride home.

Round three had Frankie “Madman” Taylor in the opposite lane, and for the third time in the course of the weekend Scruggs improved the MPH number on the board during his winning 3.54 pass, this time just a hair from 220 MPH in the eighth-mile, setting the record at 219.47 MPH – nearly four MPH faster than Hossler, the closest competition.

Unfortunately, in the final round, Scruggs encountered the dreaded tire shake issue, ending his weekend just shy of winning it all when Hossler cruised through the traps first on his quickest pass of the weekend with a 3.55 at 216.31 MPH to Scruggs’ faltering 4.60 at 112 hit, in the process wrapping up the series championship and settling Scruggs in the fourth points position.
