Let’s start off this post by saying three words that anyone who’s ever attended an NHRA or Nostalgia event will understand at the core of their being: Nitromethane. Is. Awesome.
Now that we have that formality out of the way, let’s take a look at this video shot by Tera Wendland of MaxCacklePhotos shot at the recent California Hot Rod Reunionin Bakersfield, Calif.
The Cacklefest assembles as many as 80 nostalgia nitro-burning machines along the Famoso Raceway quarter-mile; many of the most iconic cars of years gone by parade out onto the track for the largest gathering of nitro fumes anywhere on the planet.
Considering the spectacle, especially up close, that just two modern nitro cars are, you can just imagine the sight, the sound, the feel of so many of these legendary machines all cackling away at once,
Header pipes glowing, some of the machines make it out onto the track under power, and some of them need to be pushed and then started upon assuming their position, but one thing is for certain – seeing this in person should be on everyone’s bucket list.
It’s not about cars making the trip down the track – the Cacklefest is purely about the entertainment value nitro provides, especially at night when the zoomies are aflame and the blowers are whining away. It’ll out you right on the edge of your seat.
The Cacklefest is in another league from the NHRA’s big show. The sheer insanity of all eighty of these cars running at the same time is a slice of awesome you’re not likely to get anywhere else on this Wednesday. Put on the earphones, turn up the volume, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nitro-burning craziness. Our eyes are burning just thinking about it.
