As you may have heard, Mountain Motor Pro Stock is making a return to the IHRA ranks for the 2014 racing season, and Grove City, Ohio’s Dwayne Rice will be front-and-center in the class he’s participated in since 1997. Rice will pilot a brand new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro in the IHRA and anywhere else the car will fit for 2014.
In addition to his Mountain Motor Pro Stock and NHRA Pro Stock experience, Rice has competed in the NHRA’s Competition Eliminator category, as well as the IHRA’s Modified class in the past, where he turned in the first-ever 6-second, 200 MPH pass in the class.
Rice’s Camaro was built by SRC Motorsports and will feature an 830-plus cubic-inch Chevrolet engine wearing a set of wedge heads put together by teammate and longtime Mountain Motor racer Ron Miller. A Lenco 5-speed transmission will harness the power and send it back to the rearend, allowing Rice to bang gears all the way down the 1320.
The Mountain Motor Pro Stock class is returning to its roots in the IHRA after a number of years held in conjunction with the ADRL’s events. With the recent upheaval in the ADRL’s ranks, a group of MMPS racers decided it was time to cut a deal with the IHRA and head back in that direction.
“With all of the controversy in Mountain Motor Pro Stock racing between IHRA, ADRL, and the PDRA, we haven’t committed to run any particular one. We plan to run all of them until something is concrete with one of them. We hope IHRA brings us back full time like the old days,” explains team PR manager Dave Roach.
We’ll be bringing you more Mountain Motor Pro Stock information as it becomes available.
