Willowbank Raceway in Australia provided quite the backdrop this past weekend as ANDRA Pro Stock saw its first side-by-side six-second passes at the FUCHS Winternationals. Aaron Tremayne and Top Qualifier Lee Bektash did the deed in the semifinals of the race; Bektash with the quicker 6.961 to Tremayne’s 6.965, but Tremayne advanced to the final as Bektash had lit the red on his way past the starting line.
In the final round, Aaron Tremayne faced off against his brother Tyronne in a dream matchup for one of Australia’s most visible racing families. On their way to the final round, the pair traded off the MPH record, with Aaron snagging it first in the quarterfinals, then Tyronne taking it back in the semifinal by clicking off 196.85 MPH through the traps in his defeat of Paul Beauchamp.
Much like Bektash in the semifinal, Tyronne was bit by the red bulb in the final round, losing on a heartbreaking -.001 redlight despite taking the quicker elapsed time through the traps.
“To face off against each other in a final, before we even race, we have already won, we are happy no matter who wins – but having said that heading into this final I told him he would have to push the tree hard to win, and he did!” laughed Aaron.
“To run together in the final at the Winternationals is just a dream come true, my crew and everyone works so hard and I couldn’t do this without them, what an awesome weekend,” said Tyronne Tremayne.
Both racers are sponsored by Total Seal and use their piston rings exclusively. Aussie Pro Stock is different from NHRA Pro Stock in that competitors are required to use naturally-aspirated engines sized just 400 cubic inches and smaller producing approximately 1,150 horsepower — making the six-second zone achieved by multiple competitors this past weekend even more impressive.
