If you’re a fan of nitromethane, pure, unadulterated drag racing, and the old school rodding culture as only Southern Californians can do it, there’s simply no greater an atmosphere than at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, where the annual March Meet has been held for the last 57 years. The largest and most prestigious nostalgia drag race in the world, it’s four days of old school Funny Cars, front engine dragsters, Altereds, street rods galore, and it’s one event that should be on your calendar.
If, however, it wasn’t on your calendar this year, you’re in luck.
Ace videographer Les Mayhew of NitroAmerica, without a doubt one of the most talented videographers and video editors to ever step foot inside a race track, has spent the last three months tirelessly editing away at what we can only imagine is hundreds upon hundreds of hours of video footage captured at this year’s March Meet, utilizing a number of different unique camera angles, and the result is nearly an hour and a half of video that will absolutely blow you away.
With an incredible mix of interviews and overlay audio, more amazing slow-motion footage than you can shake a stick at, numerous in-car and on-car clips, and coverage of every run of eliminations in the upper tier nitro categories, this is 85 minutes of your day you didn’t want to waste but you’re oh-so glad you did. You simply won’t find a drag racing video more entertaining than this, and our hats are off to Mayhew for absolutely crushing one out of the park. Again.
