Likeable Canadian Nick Agostino wheeled his sleek red and silver 4th Gen Camaro to a blistering new small block 10.5 benchmark this past weekend at Toronto Raceway Park. Taking the tree on a single run in the cool evening air, Nick bumped his twin-Precision Turbo‘d ride into the beams and proceeded to blister the TRP asphalt as he rocketed to a 4.05 at 201 MPH. Nick’s pass was, ironically, too quick to be backed up by his next-quickest pass of the weekend for an official record, though it certainly sets the bar, whether it is official or not. When asked what pushed the Camaro into the 4.0-range, Agostino points to some recent additions and upgrades to his setup.
“We just added an AMS-2000 Boost Controller and that thing has made a big difference,” Nick stated. “It really allows us to bring in the power exactly where we want it on the track.”
Nick also credits a recent swap from a 3-speed transmission to an M&M Transmissions 2-speed, bolted to a ProTorque torque converter, a combination that is less aggressive and more consistent than the previous 3-speed setup. Menscer Motorsports also revalved the shocks on the car. All of these recent changes have allowed Nick to get more aggressive with the tune earlier in the run, a known weak spot for turbo combinations. As you can see in the video, Nick has the 480 CID small block-powered F Body launching like a rocketship.
Unfortunately for Agostino, he would have an encounter with the retaining wall a few passes after he ripped off the 4.05 when the car got loose and took a hard left turn. Only the driver’s side door escaped damage, so Nick and crew are thrashing on repairing the car in hopes of making the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas in November, where he hopes to become the first small block 10.5 car in the 5-second range in the quarter mile.
