You simply cannot be a real, honest-to-goodness drag racing fanatic and not dig old school racing shirts that feature the cars, the stars, and the legendary facilities of yesteryear that made this great sport what it is. Of course you can’t just purchase these shirts out of the back of “Jungle Jim’s” trailer anymore, nor can you walk up to the concession stand at Lions Dragstrip and acquire some new wares. But thanks to the Red Line Shirt Club, it’s still possible to get your paws on some very original or time period-correct shirts for your next trip to the track.
The Red Line Shirt Club is, just as the name implies, an exclusive club in which members receive a fresh new authentic tee shirt design each and every month. Once the shirt design has been distributed to its members that month, it is retired forever, making these shirts true limited-edition, exclusive swag just for members.
The designs are chosen each month by the team at Red Line, through their own extensive travels through the years, as well as by submissions from club members. Each month, members receive a new shirt, which comes with unique information and facts about the subject of that month’s shirt.
The list of past — and now retired — shirts reads like a who’s-who of not only drag racing legends, but race tracks whose fame has long outlived their own existence. Some of the shirts include “California Flash” Butch Leal’s 1973 Plymouth Duster, the 1963 world record-holding Frantic 4 team of Southern Californians Ron Rivero, Jim Fox, and Dennis Holding, the original Hurst HEMI Under Glass Barracuda, Pro Stock veteran Frank Iaconio, Charlie Hill’s “Filthy Forty” unblown Gasser from the early 1960’s, and even classic tees from the fabled Detroit Dragway and Irwindale Raceway.
Club membership is $22 per month — with a slight uncharge for the “big boys and beer bellies”, as they put it — and there is no commitment required when you join. You may cancel your monthly membership at any time, and you can also change your shirt size if you happen to eat a little too much at Thanksgiving.
