The Discovery Channel is set to premiere an all-new season of the popular program “Street Outlaws” this evening, and they’re puling out all the stops for the occasion, with an all-day-long, thirteen hour marathon of episodes from the previous seasons leading up to the big launch of the highly-anticipated new season. And we’re hearing that premiere just might feature the infamous “lost episode” that was all the talk on the interwebs back in early 2014, in which “Daddy Dave” Comstock, then the No. 1 driver on OKC’s “Top 10 List” took on “Tuff Enuff” from Chicago in an episode that was partially filmed but never aired.
A year ago, the gang from Street Outlaws — their wicked street cars in tow — traversed from Oklahoma up to Chicago with a full slate of races on tap, as is usually the norm on the hour-long cable show. Interestingly, the races took place at and were filmed on West Schweizer Road, which is located just outside the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, between the drag strip and the Chicagoland Speedway oval track.
The marquee matchup, between Tuff’s roots-blown Chevy II and Daddy Dave’s famous nitrous-fed Sonoma pickup, went decidedly to the Chicago gang, as the Sonoma struck the tires early and couldn’t run down the thundering Chevy II. Following the race, message forums and social media were abuzz with chatter and accusations about the race and the filming, and the video you see here was soon created, with stock footage from the show spliced together with camcorder footage of the actual Chicago race itself to create a “lost episode” of the show that’s gotten more than 200,000 views to date. Just to reiterate — what you see here is NOT a real episode of Street Outlaws.
At the end of the day, the Discovery Channel, like any network, has complete discretion in what they film and what’s aired to the public to maintain their best interests. Reality or not, networks only make moves that deliver benefit to their programming, and Discovery Channel has done a hell of a job with Street Outlaws thus far, growing the viewership season-over-season and making it one of the most-watched show among men on cable television. But now, there’s talk that the infamous Chicago matchup may finally get some air-time in some fashion or another. But we’ll all have to wait and see.
The new season premieres at 9/8c this evening, and the season is expected to easily top all of those before it, with a number of new faces and new cars gracing the show. We’ve also heard the now-annual “Cash Days” episode will be quite the barnburner, as well.
