BROWN, HAGAN, ANDERSON, SAVOIE, AND GLIDDEN WINNERS AT ENGLISHTOWN

Local favorite Antron Brown won the NHRA Summernationals for the first time at his home track in Englishtown on Sunday. He was joined by teammate Matt Hagan in Funny Car, Greg Anderson in Pro Stock, Jerry Savoie In Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Bill Glidden in Pro Modified.

In addition to winning at his home race for the first time, Antron Brown also captured a milestone 50th career victory Sunday in Englishtown with his triumph in Top Fuel, as he downed Brittany Force in the final round with a 3.84-second run. Brown’s Funny Car teammate, Matt Hagan, used a 4.13-second lap to fend off Alexis DeJoria for the title, while in Pro Stock, Greg Anderson ran the table, charging from the No. 1 qualifying position to a defeat of Allen Johnson in the money round. Jerry Savoie earned a huge win in Pro Stock Motorcycle — the second of his career — with a 6.79 in the final after opponent Jim Underdahl went red. And in Pro Modified, Bill Glidden claimed the first NHRA victory of his illustrious driving career, powering past Don Walsh Jr. for the crown.

Holly Springs Spring Shootout

Daniel Pharris collected an impressive win in the debut of an all-new combination in his radial tire Mustang at the rescheduled Spring Shootout at the Holly Springs Motorsports Park over the weekend, eventually downing DeWayne Mills in the final with a stout 4.13. In Outlaw 275, Kyle Megginson ousted Bill Kistler, 4.51 to an off-pace 5.79, while Jacky McCarty collected his fourth X275 win in a row with a 4.62-second defeat of Shannon Renfro in the final. And in Ultra Street, Joel Greathouse collected yet another event title with a 4.97 over a slowing Craig Fowler.

NHRA Division 2

Randy Daniels earned Competition Eliminator honors at the NHRA Southeast Division event held at the Montgomery Motorsports Park on Sunday, as he powered around Van Puckett for the 8.95-second win. In Super Stock, Jeff Adkinson benefitted from a further-under-the-dial run by opponent Nicholas Morris to collect the hardware in a double breakout affair, while Jeff Hairrington did the same in the Stock final, running just a thousandth under his 10.21 dial for the win.

NHRA Division 3

Rain washed out the final eliminations of the NHRA North Central division meet at the Route 66 Raceway near Chicago on Sunday. Lucas Oil Series officials have rescheduled the remainder of eliminations to future events, with the Top Alcohol portion slated for the upcoming national event in Norwalk and the remainder of the sportsman categories set for the next divisional event in Columbus, Ohio.

NHRA Division 5

In a battle of dragsters, Doug Engels drove his D/Dragster around Clint Sallee’s B/Dragster in the Competition Eliminator finale at the NHRA West Central Division race at the Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota — a 7.20 serving well enough to fend off Sallee and his stellar .002 reaction time. In Super Stock, Abe Loewen put together an impressive .011 package in the final, going .005 on the tree and 9.526 on his 9.52 dial, to down Mark Jenkins, and past Pro Stock racer Paul Pittman collected Top Sportsman honors with a 6.65-second defeat of Tom Schmidt.

NHRA Division 6

The Mission Raceway in Canada hosted the NHRA Lucas Oil Series Northwest Regional and Divisional over the weekend, where Joey Severance claimed Top Alcohol Dragster honors over Megan McKernan with a great 5.30 at 269 mph in the final round. Greg Hunter, meanwhile, won Top Alcohol Funny Car in a great drag race with Shane Westerfield, 5.70 to a 5.75, after nearly identical reaction times.
