With the wild success and popularity of the Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws show and its ever-entertaining cast of characters, no prep-style racing has become all the rage in drag racing of late, and over the weekend, the gang from Oklahoma City, who tout themselves as the fastest street racers in the country, proved it at perhaps the biggest no prep event of the year, right in the 405’s back yard.

Oklahoma City’s own Justin “Big Chief” Shearer drove his twin-turbocharged “Crow” Pontiac LeMans to a $20,000 victory at the Thunder Valley Raceway Park’s inaugural Outlaw Armageddon, billed as the World Series of No Prep Racing. The event’s headliner was the No Prep Invitational, featuring 32 of the baddest cars and biggest names in street and no prep racing in the nation, as well as five alternates. The invited entries, for anyone who routinely tunes in to Street Outlaws, read like a who’s-who of street and grudge racers: Shearer, Shawn “Murder Nova” Ellington, Doc, Monza, John Andrade, Dominator, Chuck Seitsinger, Chris “BoostedGT” Hamilton, Boddie and his Nova all the way from California, Chicago’s own “Tuff Enuff”, Barefoot Ronnie, and even the one and only Kye Kelley and his “Shocker” Camaro from Mississippi.

The race was conducted in true street racing fashion, with a starter and a flashlight at the hit, and spotters at the finish line judging the stripe and tripping the win lights for the crowd.

After five rounds of competition, it was Shearer who was spreading $20,000 in cash on the roof of his famed Pontiac for the cameras in a very popular victory, after defeating the nitrous-assisted “John Doe” Oldsmobile Cutlass of Scott Taylor out of Mississippi in the final.
