Randy Shipp and his family are hardcore drag racers who NHRA class race some cool cars. The car that easily classifies as the coolest is his 1955 Chevy, which his daughter Kristi races in Super Stock. This ’55 has lived a couple of lives and makes for one awesome Super Stocker.
Randy has always been a fan of classic Chevrolets, so when the opportunity came up to purchase another 1955 Chevy he was all over it. The first thing Randy did when the modifications began was stuff an LS engine under the hood with a pair of 78mm turbos. He drove the car on the street like that for several years, but when Kristi needed a Super Stock ride, the ’55 was pressed into service to fill that role.
Currently, the ’55 is powered by a small block Chevy and runs in the 10.70 range in Super Stock trim. The car is still rocking pretty much all of its original steel and the two-tone paint just looks awesome. If the near-stock exterior wasn’t giving off enough of a cool vibe, the car still has a full interior. Right now, the ’55 is set up to run several different Super Stock GT classes by adding or subtracting some weight.
Randy enjoys owning a car like this and having his daughter race it in Super Stock because you just don’t see many ’55 Chevys in the class these days. The car garners a lot of attention in the staging lanes because it’s unique and the build quality is top-notch. Now, the ’55 is more than just a pretty face, Kristi has been able to wheel the car to multiple round wins thanks to just how consistent it runs.
