This New Twin-Turbo Coyote Galaxie Is A Stunner

One of our favorite new ground-up small-tire cars built in the last handful of years, Adam McCoy’s spectacular Ford Galaxie is set for Extreme 28-inch tire no-time competition in 2024. The beautiful new car, completed last spring, is wheeled and tuned by former Radial vs The World record-holder and accomplished racer Kevin Mullins, who owns and operates TKM Performance in Denton, North Carolina.

The Galaxie sports not an LS, a 481X, or a combination you’d generally associate with 3-second (1/8-mile) potential on small tires, but rather, a 5.0L, 302 cubic inch Ford Coyote found originally in today’s Ford Mustang and F-150 pickups. The engine’s foundation is a billet Coyote block from Accufab, featuring a stock Ford crankshaft, a custom-spec COMP camshaft, TKM ported stock-casting cylinder heads, R&R aluminum rods, and Wiseco pistons. The mill is topped with a Plazmaman intake, and fuel is delivered via Billet Atomizer 850 lb/hr injectors, from an Aeromotive fuel system. Likewise, the boosted air comes compliments of a set of 76/75 Precision turbochargers. The entire package is managed by a Holley EFI system.

McCoy, Jared Tucker, and Mullins sourced a Virginia Speed-built TH400 transmission to transfer the power, and paired it with an M&M non-lock-up converter and a PST carbon-fiber driveshaft.

In their debut at last year’s Street Car Takeover at Charlotte, North Carolina’s zMAX Dragway, Mullins crept up on the combination and visited the final round before the event was halted due to curfew. They followed that up with wins in the Extreme 28-inch class at Street Car Braggin Rights at the Darlington Dragway, as well as the TKM 28 Shootout at Rockingham Dragway. The duo originally considered Limited Drag Radial competition with the sleek new car, but have settled into 28-inch tire racing
