The Hurt Locker: Ken Hurt’s Pro Street 1966 Chevrolet C10

Chevrolet C10 trucks have become one of the most popular platforms in the automotive aftermarket industry in recent years. If you’re lucky enough to attend the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas, you’ll notice many different variations, such as this, a Pro Street-style 1966 Chevrolet C1o build by Ken Hurt of Tucson, Arizona.

Ken has had a distinct passion for Chevrolet C10’s for many years and is stepping up on his latest build. Due to its warm and typically dry weather, central and southern Arizona is a hot-bed for custom hot rods. In the drag racing world, Arizona is likewise becoming a hot-bed of grudge racing on the west coast. Ken’s goal with this build is to have nice street-legal truck for cruising and hurting some feelings on the track. Lets take a look what Ken has planned for his ’66.

Ken's '66 may not look like much right now but it will be hitting the pavement in the next few months!

  • Engine: 496 cubic-inch big-block Chevy, Dart block, built by Skip White (635 hp/615 torque), forged pistons, H-beam rods, roller valvetrain, 4340 forged crank
  • Patriot headers 2” primary, dual 3” exhaust, MSD ignition, 950 cfm carb
  • TCI manual valve body TH350, chrome-moly driveshaft
  • Currie 9″ with 4:10, P/S, P/B, four-wheel disc brakes
  • Entropy radiator with dual electric fans, Derale cooler
  • Rebuilt, lowered stock front suspension
  • Rear 4-link air-ride suspension, Choppin Block back-halved
  • Billet Specialities 15×5 front and 15×14 rear wheels
  • Tires: 31×16.5×15 Mickey Thompson’s
  • Custom interior by Dbomb Custom Interiors
  • Carbon-fiber door panels, gauge cluster and glove box, Auto Meter carbon-fiber gauges, roll cage, Billet Specialties steering wheel, CPP column, Scott’s Hot Rod gas and brake pedals, TCI Outlaw shifter
  • Boyds Welding fuel cell, Magnafuel fuel system

While Ken plans to keep the truck completely street legal, he is contemplating entering the Pro Bracket category at Tucson Dragway. Ken tells us, “I’m putting a two-stage nitrous system on the engine so I can have a little fun in the Arizona grudge racing scene.”

We look forward to seeing Ken’s ’66 when it is completed later on this year!
